In 1993 Chantal and Gérard Perse, owner ofChateau Pavie, came to Monbousquet to begin a new chapter in the château’sstory, production standards at Monbousquet were completely revised both in thevineyard (entirely restructured and drained) and in the cellars, his effortswere soon recognized and in 2006 Monbousquet was promoted to the rank of aGrand Cru Classé. This growth which has always been well-respected amongSaint-Emilion’s great wines has become one of the appellation’s stars, leadingRobert Parker to declare: “Château Monbousquet under Gérard Perse’s guidance isexceptional. Right now this growth is probably the most exotic and most sensualwine in Saint-Emilion, if not in all of Bordeaux.” This 2013 was aged 18-24 months in new oak barrels with racking every 3 months. The wine is neither fined norfiltered.
It offers up a complex notes of cedarwood, Christmasfruitcake, cherries, baking spices and red and black currants.
The palate is medium-bodied with a littledustiness on the entry, red and black fruit here, quite firm and"solid" in the mouth.
